Street Magician. Fergus has been known for his street magic style since he first turned professional just over 10 years ago. During the 90s street magic was popularised when David Blaine burst onto the scene in 1999. For the first time in the history of magic, tricks were performed close-up – a foot from people’s faces! Despite being just 10 years old, Fergus immediately fell in love with this way of performing. Moreover, it was arguably a catalyst for his interest in the art (and why he is a magician who wears black). Fergus’ showreel (featured below) is a brilliant example of exactly what you can expect from a street magician. Straightaway you will notice the tricks are performed out and about in an informal manner with everyday objects. Unsurprisingly, as the term dictates, the street magic showreel was filmed around various street locations in the Greater London area.

What is a street magician?

A street magician isn’t necessarily someone who performs on the street. It is a broader term used to describe a magician who performs mind-blowing magic at close quarters and has a more modern/contemporary style. Significantly, a street magician often performs with small objects that audiences are familiar with such as cards, coins, rings, bottles etc. Often, these objects are borrowed and belong to the audience watching. Comparatively, other types of magicians might introduce object that appear out of place. Conversely, a street magician tends to work with props we as an audience are familiar with or use on a day-to-day basis. Where will this style of magic work?

A street magician is suitable for any event. Street magic tricks are largely the same as close-up magic in two ways. Firstly, they are magic tricks performed with everyday objects. Secondly, the tricks are performed in close quarters to an audience. Consequently, this makes them a perfect addition to events such as cocktail parties, corporate dinners or product launches. Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that you don’t have to worry, a street magician will still turn up looking smart, you just won’t find a sparkly waistcoat or spinning bow tie in sight!

When can I have a street style magician?

Similar to close-up magic, street magic can fit into just about any part of your event. Furthermore, it is suited for everything from informal events such as a house party, right the way up to the most high-end corporate occasions. Asides from this, it can also be a great style to incorporate into a product launch, trade show, or brand video for social media.  There is a common misconception that a street magician will turn up and look scruffy, we can assure you this is not the case!

Why have a street magician?

So, a street magician is a great option when you are looking for a performer who is a little different. Asides from performing as a corporate magician for some of the biggest brands in the world, Fergus can adapt his style to be  more informal. After all, it is exactly this style of performing that begun is journey into magic. Without Blaine, who knows where we could be! Moreover, Fergus’ style is slick and simple – the one thing you can guarantee is that Fergus won’t turn up in a spinning bow tie or sparkly waistcoat! Unquestionably, he is one of the county’s leading street magic performers.
