Why Magic Works
Magic has been enchanting audiences for centuries. From grand stage productions like David Copperfield to close-up street performances like David Blaine, magic captivates the most cynical of audiences. I have been performing for audiences from all over the world since the age of 14…If there is one thing I’ve learnt, it is that magic is universally loved! But, what is it about the mystical art that has us hooked?
Goodbye Reality
Magic is like a trip to the Twilight Zone. It is unlike any other form of entertainment in that it challenges everything we think we know about reality. Whether I’m reading someone’s mind or making cards appear in an impossible location, audiences experience something like nothing else in their life.
In an age of relative cynicism, where answers can simply be “googled”, life can get pretty mundane, right? But when watching magic, audiences are whisked away to a whole new dimension. It’s an escape from the daily grind – I encourage your inner Peter Pan to thrive!
Secrets, Secrets, and More Secrets…
Most people know that magicians are super secret keepers. It is one of the most important parts of being a magician and is crucial if you wish to remain a member of The Magic Circle.
The reason is simple. Behind every magic trick is a secret far less interesting than the miracle an audience witness. The mystery behind the trick is often a mechanical one, and keeping this hidden from the audience is what creates the thrill. Furthermore, trying to crack the code and find out how we do what we do is part of the fun. It is what makes magic such a great icebreaker at all events!

Getting Up Close and Personal
A truly incredible feature of magic is that it involves the audience. It is arguably the most interactive form of entertainment around! Whether I am performing close-up magic or stage magic, everything I do is reliant on my audience’s help. It is what makes magic so engaging and extremely memorable. It’s worth mentioning, I never try and make anyone look silly, everything I do is entirely inclusive and for the good of the show! You won’t hear me using terrible puns or making anyone feel uncomfortable. The only way magic creates a unique bond is when magicians value the importance of their audience and don’t make it about their own ego!
A Blast from the Past
There is something nostalgic about magic. It takes us back to simpler times. Like children marvelling at the wonders of the world, seeing magic as an adult reminds us that it’s okay to harness our belief in the extraordinary…if only for a moment.
Unleashing Our Inner Wizards
Learning magic tricks can be extremely empowering. I’d be a fool if I didn’t mention I have an app that teaches magic tricks! It is available to download by clicking here. Who doesn’t want to impress their friends with some mind-boggling magic?
Learning a unique, entirely new skill can be extremely satisfying as an adult. Who knows, perhaps you might be performing alongside me at my next event!
Ultimately, the reason why magic works is it releases our inner child. It is the quickest way to connect with people and form meaningful bonds that would otherwise be very difficult to facilitate. The art itself is a timeless one and no matter what technological advancements we experience, magic endures. It has a unique place in the world. I believe it creates curiosity that cannot be rivalled through any other type of entertainment. If you’d like to find out how I can help at your next event, click here and drop me an email!
